Australians have managed to cultivate a reputation for being just a little bit unhinged, and the participants at the Burnouts Unleash contest certainly aren’t helping to change any of that – and we love them for it. While we may think of massive smoke shows as a decidedly American display of horsepower brutality, the Australians really take things to another level, as evidenced by the description for this particular contest in Willowsbank, Queensland:
“Burnouts Unleashed is a non-stop four hour choreographed stadium burnout show featuring sixty five of Australia’s Best Pro Burnout Cars. In a world first, Burnouts Unleashed will incorporate a mind blowing lighting and sound experience in and around the burnout arena as well as stadium grandstand seating, giant LCD TV screens, stunt driver shows, podium dancers, live DJ, demo burnouts from UC SMOKE, “win a ride” lucky door prizes plus merchandise and market stalls will all be a part of the night’s experience.”
This is not some side show attraction – the burnouts are the main event. To that end, seemingly nothing can stop these drivers in their quest for maximum smoke-billowing glory. The run isn’t over until the car is riding on the rim, and nothing as trivial as a pesky engine fire is going to slow these maniacs down, much less get them to kill the motor and push the car off the course. Even the announcer seems to be more concerned for this driver’s well-being than he is.
Don’t ever change, Australia.
